Niagara Waste Systems is committed to the long-term care of its landfill site.   This commitment begins with sound management practices that will continue through the closure and post-closure of the landfill site.

Niagara Waste Systems practices progressive rehabilitation.   Once a cell is filled to its approved contours it is covered with a cap of compacted clay.   The area is then seeded to accommodate the re-establishment of indigenous vegetation.   Niagara Waste Systems contracts with NTEC to assist with planting and care of regenerated area. NTEC is a Niagara not for profit organization that empowers people with disabilities to participate fully in community life.  

Landscape architects have been retained to plan for the closure and post-closure of the landfill. The intent is for the landfill to blend in naturally with the surrounding Niagara Escarpment Area. Care will be taken to naturalize the area in harmony with the existing landscape. The site is operated, managed and rehabilitated in full consideration for both the short-term and long-term good of the environment, community and tomorrow’s generations.
