Asphalt emulsions are an effective maintenance sealant for longitudinal, reflective, and linear cracks as well as cracks caused by shrinkage. The failure to seal cracks properly can lead to further and more severe damage from water intrusion.

Sealing cracks with asphalt emulsions is a relatively simple and inexpensive procedure. Asphalt emulsion grades used for crack sealing include: SS-1, SS1h, CSS-1 and CSS-1h.
