Walker Industries Joins NSI
Six Organizations Participate as NSI launches the Carbon Project
Niagara Sustainability Initiative (NSI), a not-for-profit that is leading a Niagara Region program that assists organizations to measure, manage and reduce their carbon emissions, has expanded to include some notable partners. Walker Industries, the City of Welland, Brock University, Niagara College, Creative Sign Works and Synchro Engineering have all committed to the Carbon Project offered by NSI.
Through NSI, organizations can access cost-reduced carbon management software and other items essential to achieving the competitive advantage of sustainability. “Management of carbon is an important aspect of business,” says Evan DiValentino, NSI’s Executive Director, “It provides an opportunity to control costs and environmental impacts of commuting, business travel, electricity, natural gas/heating, water usage and other actions that are carbon-intensive.”
On August 18 at Southbrook Vineyards, NSI’s newest partners discussed the importance of sustainability and carbon management to their organization and the Niagara Region. “Organizations participating in the Carbon Project have all made a commitment to the environment and new business opportunities,” remarks DiValentino.
While there are large organizations joining the Carbon Project, DiValentino stresses that carbon management is for small, medium and large enterprises. Creative Sign Works, a sign company in St. Catharines, is an example of how the Carbon Project works for companies of any size. “Although this is a new process for the folks at Creative Sign Works, they feel they can learn through NSI and become a leader in their sector,” states DiValentino, “Sustainability is a competitive advantage, and we’re happy to have a group of leaders in Niagara participating in a worthwhile initiative.”
This event was held one week before NSI begins its new season of educational forums and technical workshops that teach local businesses how to reduce carbon emissions, become more sustainable and reduce operating costs.
