Brothers John and Norris Walker were presented with lifetime achievement awards Friday February 24, 2012 during the 18th annual Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year Awards at the Scotiabank Convention Centre.

The Walkers, fourth-generation owners of Walker Industries, were recognized not only for their business success, but also for their community involvement. They have now handed over ownership of the company to their children.

Concluding his acceptance speech, Norris Walker stuck his toe into politics, calling for one municipality of Niagara to replace the current 12 cities and towns.

The Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year Awards were established in 1994 to recognize the achievements, excellence and innovation of Niagara’s entrepreneurs. The awards are supported by a committee of volunteers from Niagara’s corporate, education and economic development sectors.

Since 1994 the Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year Awards program has recognized 686 entrepreneurs from the Niagara region.
