Niagara College BioBlitz at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus

Acknowledging our part is the first step to higher environmental performance. As a company and as individuals we are part of the environment and the community. For that reason, Walker Industries was proud to sponsor the first-ever Bioblitz at Niagara College’s Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.

For 12 straight hours, students and professors, volunteers and naturalists, worked together to conduct an intensive field study attempting to record all of the living species within a designated area. “From the plants on the ground to the birds in the air, all living species and creatures were part of the count”, said Brenna Thompson, a postgraduate student in the environmental management assessment program and one of the organizers of the event. The goal was to catalogue as much as possible. The survey is relatively new but similar blitzes are happening all across the province of Ontario.

Earth DayAs individuals and as a company we are dependent on the balance of nature’s cycles and the resources that nature provides. Every step that we take to create a healthy environment is a step to creating a healthy self and a sustainable company.

Earth Day is celebrating its 46th year of a movement that continues to inspire, challenge ideas, ignite passion, and motivate people to action. Let’s keep the movement going.
