- 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a form
of mental health illness at some point
in their lives.
- 70% of mental health problems onset
during childhood or adolescence.
- Young people aged 10 to 24 are more
likely to experience mental illness
and/or substance use disorders than
any other age group.
- After accidents, suicide is the second
leading cause of death among youth
aged 10 to 19.
In Niagara, the Pathstone Foundation is taking
action to address these issues with their
Mending Children’s Minds Campaign.
Their vision is to transform children’s lives by
building a state-of-the-art mental health
treatment facility to provide desperately needed
treatment for more children, youth and families
in Niagara. Pathstone Mental Health was the
only accredited regional provider of mental
health services assisting children, youth and
their families last year.
Understanding the impact mental illness can have
on a family and a community, the Walker family
and Walker Industries contributed to the
Mending Children’s Minds campaign to support
the future home of Pathstone Mental Health.
