On Monday, April 3, 2017 twelve Walker Industries employees graduated from the Goodman-Walker Professional Management Certification Program offered by Brock University’s Goodman School of Business.

Walker Industries and Brock’s Goodman School of Business started a partnership in 2014 to create a management certificate program for Walker employees who are engaged in supervisory roles or who aspire to fill future management roles within Walker.

“This is a very valuable partnership between Goodman and Walker. It’s what I would call a triple win situation,” said Abdul Rahimi, Director of Goodman’s Centre for Innovation, Management and Enterprise Education (CIMEE). “The school wins because it is living up to its mandate of providing a valuable service, Walker wins because it is investing in its people, and the individuals win because many of the topics covered give them the opportunity to succeed in both their professional lives and their personal lives.

Each year, 10-15 Walker employees are chosen by the Executive Committee to complete the 11-week training program.  During the program, participants meet once a week at the Cairns Centre at Brock University for three-hour business seminars presented by the Goodman faculty.  Topics range from Finance to Conflict Management, with an emphasis on leadership and business-related skills.

“The Goodman program gave me an appreciation of how I can thrive as a leader by using my strengths and recognizing my weaknesses,” said Becky Oehler, a recent graduate of the program and the Community Engagement Manager at Walker Environmental.

For this year’s management certificate, Monday, April 3rd marked the final day of class. Monday’s session was followed by a graduation ceremony for the third cohort of the Goodman-Walker Professional Management Certification Program.

Congratulations go to Brandon Anger, Tessa Bear, Lesley Clarke, Derick Crane, Michael Deluca, Taylor Glover, Shea Gordon, Jesse Langlois, Shawn Sadlier, Len Skilnick, Becky Oehler and Courtney Walsh.
