Walker Emulsions Recognized as Sustainability Champions

Sustainable Hamilton held its Third Annual Evening of Recognition on June 23, 2015, for the 2014-reporting year. In its first reporting year, the Walker Emulsions (Burlington, ON) team was able to share their experiences to adopt sustainability practices throughout operations. The report was based on the G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI); Walker Emulsions reported on several key indicators that range from human rights to Health and Safety to water reductions, among others.

Sustainable Innovation AwardSustainability Awards recognize the achievements of Sustainable Hamilton’s partner organizations. A panel of third party judges evaluated each report to identify sustainability champions. These judges were from St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, KPMG’s Sustainability Practice division and McMaster’s DeGroote Business School.

Taken from Sustainable Hamilton’s Annual Report, the Sustainable Innovation Award is:
“Based on company initiatives that offer true “triple bottom line” benefits, addressing environmental, social and economic issues. The initiatives must represent an innovative new approach to existing issues, or a brand new product or service.”

Walker Emulsions was a stand-out organization and was recognized for its engagement in its internal environmental EARTH 1st program and its water and heat reclamation process. One of the most impactful indicators of Walker Emulsions’ 2014 report was a 38 percent reuse rate of process water. Through efficiency upgrades and process improvements, Walker Emulsions is able to reduce its demand of municipal water resources.

The bar has been set – with an official sustainability measurement, Walker Emulsions will now move to the management phase of its sustainability reporting.

Congratulations to the Walker Emulsions team.
