Walker Family Donates to Woodend – The Living Campus

The Walker family and Walker Industries (“Walker Industries”) are donating $500,000 towards the construction and revitalization of the Woodend Property located on the Niagara Escarpment.

The revitalized campus will be called the Walker Living Campus at Woodend. The living campus will feature both indoor and outdoor learning environments where thousands of students from the Niagara Region can enjoy educational and environmental experiences. The programs will be taught in conjunction with the Ontario Curriculum.

Walker Family Donates to Woodend-The Living CampusAs individuals and as a company we challenge our employees to give back to the environment more than we take from it. It is because of our commitment to the environment that we are so very excited to be involved in the Woodend project. Woodend will provide a hands-on, interactive learning environment. Students will be challenged to acknowledge their connection to the environment. One goal is to have students understand their responsibility to the environment and challenge them to find ways to reduce their impact on it.

Walker Industries is committed to the community, environment and tomorrows’ generations through our EARTH 1st principles. EARTH 1st reminds the company’s employees, customers and suppliers to “efficiently operate, acknowledge they are part of the environment, reduce impacts, and take time to plan for higher environmental performance”.  The Living Campus is such a great fit with those principles. Together we can aspire to greatness in living a more sustainable, “green” way of life.

The Living Campus Fundraising Campaign is looking to raise $1.75M to support the transformation of Woodend into the Walker Living Campus.

As a family and business deeply rooted in the Niagara Region for over 120 years we feel a certain responsibility to support the District School Board of Niagara in this endeavour.
