Walker’s Support Reaches South Carolina with its Donation to Edisto Habitat for Humanity

Ms. Latonia Clark of Orangeburg, South Carolina received the keys to her family’s new home on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

Walker Industries and its shareholders contributed financial support to Edisto Habitat for Humanity in addition to providing volunteers from its division, Walker Emulsions, for the build.

Walker Emulsions has facilities in Orangeburg, SC, Portland, OR, and Burlington, ON. All three locations sent volunteers to help Edisto Habitat for Humanity with its 78th build. The initial groundbreaking took place in August and despite the 105oF (40oC) heat that day, volunteers worked together to assist with building a home for Clark’s family.

“Walker has always had a strong corporate value of giving back to the communities where we operate,” said Scott White, General Manager of Operations for Walker Emulsions. “This was our first build in the U.S. but Walker has been a supporter of Habitat in Canada with several builds. It’s been an honour to be able to help out in Orangeburg and watch the Clark family’s dream of owning a home come true.”

In an article that appeared in the Times and Democrat, Clark was quoted as saying, “we are grateful for the Habitat for Humanity Foundation and those who work with them for all they have done for my family. Our new home is truly a blessing for me and my children.”

To receive the home, Clark had to provide at least 350 hours of service with Habitat for Humanity. She has been helping the organization for over a year and a half and since that time, has helped to build nine homes for other families in need.
